How to Build a Summer Skincare Routine

Go Lighter as Temperatures Rise

When the weather warms, skin often produces more oil and sweat, so heavy winter creams can sit like a lid and clog pores. Trade thick moisturisers for gel or lotion textures, and let your routine breathe. Dehydrated skin can still feel oily, so light hydration matters even in humidity.

Cleanse Away Sweat and SPF

Sweat, sunscreen, and pollution build up fast in summer. A gentle gel or foaming cleanser twice a day keeps pores clear without stripping. At night, a quick double cleanse, an oil or balm first, then a water-based wash, removes the day's SPF and grime so skin can actually recover.

Hydrate Without the Weight

A hyaluronic acid serum on damp skin, a few drops of niacinamide, or a calming essence gives moisture without shine. A lightweight, oil-free moisturiser keeps the barrier happy. If your skin feels tight, it still needs water, just in a thinner format.

Make Sunscreen the Hero

No step matters more in summer than broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, reapplied every two hours outdoors and after sweating or swimming. A fluid or gel sunscreen feels better on hot skin, and don't forget ears, neck, and the backs of hands. Vitamin C in the morning adds antioxidant support, but only with diligent sun protection.

Exfoliate Gently and Less Often

Sweat and sunscreen can dull the surface, so a mild AHA or BHA once or twice a week keeps pores clear. Over-exfoliating in summer backfires with redness and sensitivity, so keep it brief and always follow with sunscreen. A hydrating mist and blotting papers handle midday shine without disturbing your SPF.
