How to Build a Gentle Night Skincare Routine
A calm evening routine can soothe reactive skin and support its barrier while you rest. Here is a simple, gentle plan anyone can follow.

A heat protectant spray or cream is the single most important step. It coats the strand, slows moisture loss, and gives hair a little buffer against the iron or dryer. Apply it evenly to damp hair, focusing on the ends, which take the most abuse, before any tool touches the section.
Most hair does not need the highest setting. Fine or damaged strands do well around 300 degrees Fahrenheit, while thicker hair rarely needs more than 400. Working in small sections means each pass is brief, so you get the style with less overall exposure. Quality ceramic or tourmaline tools spread heat evenly and avoid hot spots.
Wet hair is weaker and more likely to break under heat, so let it air-dry to about 80 percent first. Wet or dirty hair also heats unevenly, and residue can scorch. A microfiber towel squeezes out water without the friction of a cotton one, shortening dryer time.
Aim for at least one heat-free day a week, using braids, buns, or heatless curlers instead. These styles protect the cuticle and still look polished. Between sessions, a leave-in conditioner or light oil keeps strands supple so the next styling round starts from a healthier place.
A weekly mask with plant oils, butters, or keratin rebuilds what heat takes out, especially on mid-lengths and ends. A trim every six to eight weeks removes the splits before they travel up the shaft. Together, these habits let you enjoy your tools without trading away shine and strength.
